A Healthy Hair Journey

Let’s dispel the myth… We’re all very aware that hair extensions still have a bad reputation for damaging your natural hair. You may have seen some horror stories in the press and it’s even likely that you have had someone in your chair that's had a bad experience elsewhere. Well, we are here to help dispel the myth…

A Hair Transformation By Mark Taylor

What a better way to start off than with a great example from one of our Super Stylists, Mark Taylor.

The clients hair originally to its improvement 2 years later.

When Mark met this client initially, she had breakage from bleach and bald spots from a badly applied weft. The first application with Mark was with our Ultra Tips “I thought more individual bonds would be better on this occasion, giving better coverage. However, as her hair grew back and became thicker, we swapped over to Tapes. The Injection Tapes offer more coverage and as they are double sides, they look more natural. Plus, you don’t need so many for a full head look.”

Here is Mark’s client with her recent Tape Hair application looking better than ever...

So, what’s the secret to getting this right?

It All Starts At The Consultation

Starting at the consultation, it is really important to assess the initial health of the hair and scalp, as well as reviewing any potential reasons for causing damage. This will help guide you further.

Fellow Super Stylist Helen Richardson had a consultation recently where she advised a client not to have extensions initially so they could focus on correcting their natural hair as a priority before applying hair extensions.

Helen's caption just shows how much her advice helped with her clients hair transformation and confidence…

“A few years ago this lady came to see me, with a desperate need to fix her hair as it was falling out and wouldn’t grow! At the time we couldn’t fit hair extensions due to the quality of her natural hair. When it comes to applying hair extensions, I will say no it’s not the best solution at the time. Since then, we have then seen her regularly, for trims and advice to improve the quality of her natural hair. Now, we have finally been able to give her some hair which has boosted her confidence.”

Choosing The Application Method & Placement

Next, choosing the application method and placement of the extensions is critical.

“Your hair should always be placed properly. Why? - so your hair isn’t causing any damage and your hair can still grow.” explains Ashleigh Stewart, Remi Cachet Super Stylist.

Make sure you have a read of our previous blog posts that details the different application methods to ensure you are advising the most suitable one for your client. From Clip Ins to Wefts, the blog posts have everything you need to know.

The Importance Of Aftercare

Finally, the client’s aftercare routine at home and the requirement for her to return to the salon for those crucial in-salon maintenance appointments really determines the extension and natural hair quality. Fundamentally, if they follow the correct aftercare guide, the results will speak for themselves.

You also may wish to book their maintenance and refit appointments more frequently than you would normally just so you can monitor those initial stages and rectify any poor home aftercare issues.
