1. Make Yourself And Your Business A Brand

A great first step to marketing yourself and your business the right way is to look at your brand identity. Overall, no matter what type of stylist you are and what type of hair business you have; having a strong brand identity not only helps show customers (existing and potential) that you are an established, professional business but it also helps to increase awareness about your services and products effectively… helping you to “Boost Your Business”.

Therefore, branding is key to marketing yourself and your business the right way.

When thinking of branding first thoughts turn to creating a logo and this is a great step to establishing your brand identity but several other areas can be considered to get you underway on your journey…

- Brand Voice - How you communicate with your clients and potential clients

- Brand Values - What your business stands for

- Brand Personality - The human characteristics that are attributed to your brand

- Brand Message - The different words and phrases that you use to communicate when talking about your business and what it can do for you to clients/potential clients.

To delve into learning more about your brand in line with the areas above, here are just some of the key questions you need to ask yourself:

What are five words that describe you?

- How are you different?

- How does your logo communicate your brand?

- What are your fonts and colours?

- How do you interact with customers?

- What is your audience’s “language”?

If you ask yourself these questions, the answers can help shape your brand identity. Whether you believe you have perfected your brand identity or want to reinvent yourself and your business these questions are relevant to you. Overall, these will help you understand where you want it to go.

Having the above established will help you market yourself and your business the right way to have a recognisable, professional brand for your clients and potential clients.

2. Share Your Expertise

As we discussed in “Top Tips On Upselling And Cross-Selling In Your Marketing", your clients look to you as the expert so when it comes to your marketing you have a great opportunity to share the knowledge you have. This includes through your social media platforms…

3. Make Booking Easier For Clients

A way you can market yourself and your business the right way is by showing yourself and your business as efficient and reliable. There are two quick wins to consider to help market yourself this way, both of which are in regards to making the booking process simpler for your clients/potential clients.

Consider Going Online With Diary Management - We went into depth in our last “Boost Your Business” blog which focused on how you can "Avoid The Burn Out And Take Control Of Your Diary Management" so give this a read to learn about the many benefits of switching your booking system to online. Overall, this can result in a more efficient way for your clients to book. For example, there is no wait time required for your clients to receive your responses as opposed to if they were to book with you via direct messaging.

Promote Your Availability And Last-Minute Cancellations - Whether it's in the form of a story or a post on your Instagram or Facebook, share any available appointments with your clients to keep them informed and increase your chances of getting these appointments filled.

Plus, by implementing the above tip of going online with your diary management your content to bring awareness to available appointments can be followed with a link directly to your booking system to overall make it an easy and quick booking process.

By making booking easier for your clients, you are not only benefiting yourself and your business by increasing the chances of having more appointments but you are also marketing yourself and your business, the right way… an efficient business with great communication.

4. Get Tagging

Also, asking your clients to tag you in their posts is a simple, quick win that can help you “Boost Your Business”. By asking your clients to tag you in their hair posts on the platforms, you are not only creating more awareness for you and your business through your clients sharing your work with their followers but you are also gaining a testimonial. For example, if your client posts a picture of their hair with you tagged and a positive comment about it, you and your business are being marketed the right way. In addition to this, take your business’s destiny into your own hands and ask for permission to use your clients content on your platforms.

These are simple but effective things you can do to help you “Boost Your Business”.

5. Monitor Your Results

There are so many opportunities you have with your marketing, and whilst it is important to make the most of each one, it is also extremely important to see what works for you, so… monitor your results.

Reviewing factors such as the likes, comments and replies your content receives compared to your other posts can help you to see what is working for you and your business. So, take this all on board and implement it in your marketing going forward.

For example, maybe when you post images on Instagram one day you receive approximately twenty likes but when you post reels another you receive over a hundred likes. Therefore, this would give you an indication that Instagram Reel before better for you and you would then look to implement more reels in your content going forward.

Other areas to consider are the days you are posting and the times of the day. Have you noticed when you post on certain days and/or specific times of day your engagement is better? This is something to take note of when posting. Maybe you can experiment with different days/times of day and see if there are any noticeable differences.

Also, take your opportunity to ask new clients how and where they found out about you. This will help you to monitor where your marketing is landing and who is seeing it etc. Plus, if you are noticing new clients are finding you through it was word of mouth /recommendations, this opens an opportunity to look into adding these as testimonials to your pages/website. Find out more about why we love testimonials in previous “Boost Your Business” posts; "Top Tips On Upselling And Cross-Selling In Your Marketing".

Plus, ensure you are regularly monitoring. Marketing is always changing, so what may be working for you one month, may not be working the next. Ensure you dedicate some time every month to review the content you have posted across your platforms and see what is working.

Taking all of this into consideration and taking action will in turn help you to market yourself and your business the right way.
