Autumn Hair Colour Trends For 2024

With autumn now in full swing, it’s time for us to share the hair colour trends worth noting this season.

1. Sunflower Blonde

Don’t be caught off guard by the name. “Sunflower” may have summer connotations but as Tom explains it continues to grow in popularity. It is certainly a look we have been seeing more on our feed; less platinum, more warm, which is exactly what “Sunflower Blonde” is.

“The intensely golden shades have been trending for the entire year so far but continue to grow in popularity” is what leading hairstylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith says about this look. This features in Tom’s list of the “5 Hair Colour Trends That Are Hot on The Agenda This Autumn” discussed with Hairdressers Journal.

If your clients ask for this, we would recommend Colours 9/55 and 7 like what @dumbblondedaisy did in this stunning look.

2. Burgundy

If your clients are dreaming of a vibrant change this autumn, the “Burgundy” trend is sure to be their answer. Award-winning stylist, known for his exciting and aspirational approach to creative work, Ashley Gamble explains the look to Salon Business Magazine in their “The ‘It’ Colour Trend This Autumn/Winter - Burgundy’...

”Burgundy is the perfect transition colour as we move into the cooler months. It feels cosy and luxurious but still has that vibrant pop that makes a statement. I’ve been recommending it to Clients who want to warm up their look without going too dark.”

Introduce them to colour 99J, like @lotsoflocksbymarnie.

3. Cinder Toffee Brunette

Described by Tom Smith as “this season’s indulgence…it’s rich but with a brightness that’s perfect for autumn”, Cinder Toffee should be on your radar for your brunette clients.“Think caramel meets chocolate, with just a hint of golden glow.”

Tom further explains to Creative Mag, “This shade is perfect for those transitioning from summer, keeping things light while still embracing the season’s deeper tones.”

Create magic with ‘Cinder Toffee Brunette’.

Take inspiration from @hairdressingby_char who uses colours T1b-4/18 and 2 for her client’s transformation.

4. Barely Black

“Barely Black” is the colour celebrities are asking for right now according to Cosmpolitan’s “24 Fall Hair Colors Every Celebrity is Asking For Right Now.

For the darker months ahead, Cosmopolitan explains the look as “Basically black, just with a bit more warmth in the undertone that veers more in the brunette territory.” Perfect for those clients whose “vibe is dark, moody, and grunge” or, for those who want to take dark this Autumn, without going black.

Are your clients ready to go to the dark side?

If so, your answer is colour 1b, just like @clarity_by_jameshenderson.

5. Ombre

Ombre is also making a statement so far this season, showing up across our feed and resonating well with our fantastic stylists like you. Offering a sophisticated and dimensional look, the Ombre technique allows a seamless blend of chosen shades.

So, if your clients aren’t ready to make a bold statement with a full head colour, why not opt for this technique?

You could take one of our colour trends and use this technique like the @thecuttingroom3, using 99J.

Or, if your clients want to embrace the timeless, trendy allure of copper tones, an ombre approach is perfect to achieve that rich, coppery warmth with a modern twist. We adore this look created by @hannahwiththegoodhairx using a Nano Weft in colour 33.
