Everything You Need To Know About Maintenance
As a stylist, you will be aware of the importance of maintenance. Both you and your clients keeping up to date with their maintenance appointments ensures the hair extension quality remains in excellent condition throughout the longevity. Moreover, it is also important that a high-quality maintenance routine is explained to your clients…
Aftercare Routine
Whilst it is extremely important for you to advise your clients on the recommended aftercare, it is also important for them to understand the responsibility of the hair does not solely sit with you when they leave the salon and they in fact have a big responsibility of maintaining their hair. How well they do this, significantly influences the quality of their hair and its longevity. For the information you need to know to give your clients about aftercare, our blog post here is available to you.
Refitting
Maintenance checks involve removing and re-attaching the extensions further up the head to be more discreet and comfortable for the client. Below is some guidance depending on your chosen application method.
Pre-Bonded Hair Extensions
Some pre-bonded hair extensions may need to be retipped to ensure your clients are getting the most of the entire life expectancy of our hair extensions.
Micro Ring Extensions
Usually, we see these appointments taking place every 8 to 10 weeks, depending on the client's hair growth and individual bond. For ring methods, you should always replace and refit a new ring, and the correct ring to match the tip you are using, as ‘pushing up’ can lead to knotting hair and frequent tangles, a big no.
Our brand creator Victoria Lynch gives her expert advice on applying and refitting Elegance Nano Tips to get the most out of the extensions.
Mini Tips are made with Memory Tip® technology, which means this extension type bounces back to their original shape when unclamped so they can easily be reused on a number of occasions before the need to retip.
Please note: Ultra Tips® and Pro Tips® are reusable without the need to ever re-tip the hair, a huge advantage of working with these extensions.
Hot and Cold Fusion Bonds
These include our Elegance Flat Tip and Luxury Nail Tip extensions applied by either hot or cold fusion. They can be in place for up to 6 months, depending on hair growth and how well the hair extensions are cared for, before they would need to be re-tipped and re-applied. Find out how to re-tip and what products you need, here in our Retipping guide.
Tape Hair Extensions
For our Tape Hair Extensions our collection of Tape Tabs keeps your client’s hair extensions in place for between ten to twelve weeks so maintenance appointments will be required during this period for Retaping and reapplication. Again, our Retipping guide has everything you need to know about retaping, from knowing when to do this to the process of completing this.
In summary, we always strongly recommend using C-22 Solvent Spray Tape Remover to remove the tapes and our collection of Tape Tabs to reapply.
Weft Hair Extensions
In relation to our Weft Hair Extensions, there are several ways to apply them from traditional braid types to the ring “Hollywood Weave” method. Each application can last a variety of lengths of time, and you should know when you will need to book your clients back in for a re-fit depending on their hair and application style. We recommend a weft or weave should be re-fit every 8 to 10 weeks.
Removal and re-application of the rings should be completed with any ring style fitting, as ‘pushing up’ rings may lead to a shorter life span of the fitting. Moreover, the complete removal allows you to fully detangle the hair as well as allow a full inspection before a re-fit.
