Sun Awareness Week 2024

Sun Awareness Week is a great time to talk your clients about the importance of ensuring they are protecting their beautiful hair in the sun more than ever. When it comes to hair protection we have lots of tips, advice and recommended products…

Hair Extensions On Holiday

At Remi Cachet, our overall advice is to avoid wearing hair extensions whilst on holiday. If your clients are wearing hair extensions this exposes the hair to a lot of factors that can lead to discolouration or early colour fade. So, it's important to explain our recommendation to those clients who have been talking to you about wearing their hair extensions on holiday.

Protecting Hair In The Sun

For those clients who think hair extensions are a must for their holiday or they are wearing hair extensions in the sunny summer months, we have our top 5 tips they must follow…

1. Avoid Hard Water

2. Cover It Up & Tie It Back

3. Be Cool

4. Steel Clear Of Extra Heat

5. Use A Discolouration Solution

1. Avoid Hard Water

Hard water is water with high mineral content. Predominately, the two minerals that determine hard water are the levels of calcium and magnesium. This in turn can negatively effect your hair due to the higher levels of these mineral in comparison to “soft water”.

It’s important to note that for those stunning, sunny holiday destinations where the water isn't drinkable because of the minerals it contains, it can not only be bad for your client's skin, but can also cause discolouration to their hair.

So, it is important you educate your clients to always have their head above water whether that's on a trip to the beach or if they are having a day at the pool.

Also, don’t forget, exposure to hard water also includes when they are washing their hair in the shower. Therefore, ensure you advise them to use bottled water when washing their locks to avoid this risk.

Our founder, Victoria Lynch, explains this perfectly in her video below. This will allow you and your clients to understand more about the effects of hard water on your hair extensions, so is certainly a must watch!

2. Cover It Up & Tie It Back

The perfect excuse for your clients to treat themselves to a stylish sun-hat, a cool cap, or both… advise them to keep their hair protected from the sun.

Whether they are swimming in the pool or in the sea, we advise that they tie their hair up to keep it out of the water and away from picking up any sun cream, perfumes, lotions etc.

It is also extremely important to avoid the UV rays being exposed directly to the hair as this will accelerate colour fading.. Que the new sun hat.

3. Be Cool

Temperature is a big factor in how long your client's hair colour stays vibrant so to prevent early colour fade it's important to keep their hair cool.

When you are soaking up the sun we understand it can be hard to avoid the heat (the new sun hat will help with this). But when they are washing their hair, explain the opportunity for them to really cool their hair down. Keep the recommended bottles cool and always opt for lukewarm levels rather than hot. We promise your client's hair colour will thank you.

4. Steer Clear Of Extra Heat

Because your client's hair is being exposed to the sun rays continuously on holiday and in the summer, adding extra heat to their hair such as from hair straighteners can cause further damage and accelerate colour fade.

Therefore, low maintenance hairstyles such as plaits are a great way to avoid heat tools and embrace such as a plait or a ponytail.

Again, if heat is a must, they should always opt for a low heat setting and use a heat protectant such as our Miracle Mist, also great for their natural hair.

5. Use A Discolouration Solution
